Main Task - Research

I have been researching into film noir and may of the film noirs use shadows i like th effect of this that it makes the film seem  more mysterious. Here is some pictures of shadows that are used in film noirs and a film opening that uses it.
In this clip in the first 30 seconds a shadow is created which makes the scene more mysterious.

The lighting is a major part of film noir films as they can change the tone of the scene. Here is some pictures from my lighting work shop which shows how it can change the tone of the scene from where you place the light.

Femme fatale is always glamorous i researched this  was so i knew how to dress and do the make-up for the femme fatale in my media production. Here is some pictures of some femme fatales hair, make-up and dress.

Main Task - Post Production - Dairy Entry

Yesterday me and lauren filmed we had some issues such as our location area was unavailable as the owner pulled out close to filming time, lucky we had a back up location which we used. Also we had a problem with actors as one pulled out a day before filming but was easily sorted as we had someone else for our backup. Since filming everything has been fine apart form a couple of the clips dont have any sound, we believe this is because the micophone wasnt turned on, however we are going to get the actors to film there voice and place them on top of the clips to make it seems as if its in the clip. Today we have started editting but cutting out audio which isnt needed and making the clips black and white. I am happy with everything so far in post production and hope this carries on.

Henry White
Henry is a 23 year old american jazz singer, he is the brother of the 'powerful man' that Claus works for. He is secertly in love with Rosalie, as she plays him and Claus off one another.

Main Task - Pre Production - Location info/photos

Here are some pictures of the location that we filmed, there are three different areas that we filmed.

This is wear the main scene was took place, where Claus and Henry come face to face and Henry is shot. Also later on in that scene Esme walks in and finds Henry dead on the floor. This was the main film location as it is the area where most of the shots took place.

This is the front door of the house this are is used for two scenes when Claus goes into the house and when he leaves. Also to the left is were we filmed the shadow of Rosalie smoking, we are using this for this the credits at the begining of the production.

This is where we film Claus and Rosalie walking towards the house at the beginning and at the end when they walk off. This is a big part as it sets the scene of where the film is located.

This is the location we used to film Carlisle picking up the phone to esme as she rings him to tell him that Henry had been murdered.

Main Task-Dairy Entry 3

Me and Lauren are getting on with our pre-production really well, we have done our script, storyboard, shot list and have done half of our risk assesment and production log. We still have a lot to do but we  are getting on with everything really well. I have now got my lighting certificate, and we have booked out the lighting and camera for the 6-8 of march. We ringing up about a location and hoping we will be able to film, we have a second choice which is located in the school if we can not get our first. We think everything will be done before our production date but we are unsure about our actors, we have two but need to look around more for 3 males. We have found this very tricky as they need to be able to do an american accent and elder looking.

Main Task- Dairy Entry 2

In todays lesson we finished writing our first draft of our script, we then read them to the class and got some feed back. We then started to adjust our script for our second drafts but adding more conventional things of film noir to our dialogue such as the ltime it was set in 1930-40s and American. Me and Lauren researched American slang and added some into our dialogue to make it more conventional. We also looked at a acting website to hire some actors bs think we will be using the we site to get actors for some of our main characters as they meet the points the we need for them. We have not yet finished our second draft but it is almost done with the adjustments in place.

Main Task-Diary Entry 1

In my team I am working with Lauren Cooper, we have done a rough outline of our plot and have been looking at places for us to film, we are going to get the numbers of a few locations and ask if it will be possible to use them. We have had to change a few things in out plot because we re watched some film noir openings and realised that we were missing some conventions such as a voice over. Later on we are going to be writing our first script and decide who is going to do which parts of pre- production. We have decided in production time I am going to be the director and shared the camera man role with Lauren. Lauren is going to be the editor and the producer. We have chosen these roles because I want to improve on my directing and camera skills, Lauren wanted to do the editing as she had never done it before and also wanted to do camera work as well because we both want to improve on it.

Main Task- Similar Products- Film Noir Posters

Most of film noir posters are cartoon pictures, the posters are mostly bright colours this seems unordinary because film noir is in black and white. The brightly coloured film posters is to attract the audience in to make them want to watch the film. They make famous actors names stand out in bold and a bigger font size, because most of the audience go to see a film because of the actor not because the actual film. Film posters tend to have to main characters on them as it shows who the film is based around. The position of the character on how they are standing/posing shows there personality to give the audience a look in to what the characters are going to be like and who is who.

Main Task-Similar Products- Film Noir Openings

The Killers
The opening of The Killers is mainly got titles on, but before the titles, there is one element i would like to use during my production which is where they are driving in the car and the lights of the car (outside) is the only light element used, i think it creates a great effect and it sets the scene, as the light slowly goes on a sign as the car gets closer, it reads 'Brentwood' which sets the scene of where they are.

I watched the first 2 minutes.

Crime Wave
The opening of Crime Wave is very interesting as they start in the car and got to a gas station, as they are looking for something but unsure of what it is so it keeps the audience guessing. The element of this opening is that where the camera is placed in the car it makes you think that you are in the car and a part of what is going on I would to use this in my production because I would want to make the audience feel that they are a part of our film.
i watched the first 3 minuets.

Danger Signal
The opening to Danger Signal is really interesting as it grabs your attention straight away and when the clip finished i wanted to keep watching it. I like the different camera angles they used during the clip and the different place as it make you realise where this is set and the newspaper used in it also help you understand what has happened and the sort of film noir that it is.
I watched the whole clip as it is only short.

Main Task-Similar Products- Conclusion

To conclude all of the film noir film clips I have watched and read about so far they all have a similar plot where someone is killed somehow then the good guy is running away or trying to find  the bad guy with the help of the femme fatal, in some cases though she is the one that killed the person and the good guy is trying to protect her.  They all seem to end with an open ending to keep the audience guessing. They also have common things such as a detective or high authority police, gangsters involved and a love interest involved.
